Netizens :: Why They Suck Part 1

I'm writing this post due to the recent controversy Block B has been involved in. The more and more I read about the situation, the more my heart goes out to both the Block B boys & the people of Thailand. Here are my thoughts (rather angry thoughts) on these netizens who never seem to get it right...

In this day and age there is no going back. Once you say something or do something - chances are someone, somewhere either saw or heard and within moments, whether good or bad its on the web for all the world to see, hear, and comment on. Whats been really pissing me off lately is how netizens form their insane opinions.

In the United States...

....it literally takes an all out mental breakdown or beating to arouse a negative opinion from netizens. When celebrities have ::

  • Sex Tapes - this should be a bad thing and for the typical person it is, but if you're an American celebrity [and the number of celebrities w/one is impressive] you can bet your career just got the ultimate power boost. Most netizens might be shocked at first - only to moments later become completely absorbed with the celebrity, making that celebrity that much more desirable....netizens love this

  • Drug Abuse/Go to Rehab - this is another situation that if it happened to an everyday person you can bet it would have some serious ramifications however when netizens find out their favorite celebrity is doing drugs or has gone to rehab - there is almost no opinion change. No biggie. Its whatever.

Cirque Lodge Treatment Center (via US Mag)

  • Disrespected Someone -  I really didn't know how to list this one but this is the one category that can sometimes anger netizens in the US [tho its very very rare]. Incidents that come to mind are: Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction @ the Superbowl", Chris Brown beating his then girlfriend Rihanna, and Kim Kardashian's 72 day marriage [I think netizens/Americans felt played]. Despite the emotional responses each of these events got when they happened, they still didn't result in the overall destruction of these celebrities' careers. HOW CRAZY IS THAT?!

Thoughts

American netizens seriously anger me to the core. In their eyes a celebrity can really do no wrong. One of the most blatant examples of this is the Chris Brown/Rihanna situation. This man literally beat his girlfriend up. This isn't something that you can argue. There aren't any semantics to debate. This is straight fact. A man, a pretty famous one, beat up a woman, another famous person, till she was barely recognizable.

Sure when everything went down people were angry. He might have gone to court. Been booed a few times in public. Had a tough time...

....for awhile. Fast forward to present day and you'll witness American society welcoming him back and bestowing upon him one of the highest musical honors - A GRAMMY.

If there was ever one instance that brought shame upon the United States it should have been that moment - the moment our society rewarded a person, who has behaved so deplorably in the past, with the nation's top musical honor every musician strives for.

Flutterscape :: Kawaii Video

I've wrote about Flutterscape before on this blog and think its such a great site/service. While I was browsing the site tonight (I'm currently on the hunt for an iPhone case) I noticed they had posted this super cute video explaining how their service works. Thought it was too cute not to share!

Check it out below::

Finished Watching :: Princess Jellyfish

I really miss watching anime and I was happy to find a nice little anime to ease me back into my love for genre so here's a quick rundown...

The Basics

Tsukimi - not your average heroine
This was a pretty cute, straightforward anime about a group of nerdy women who live together and share a pretty unhealthy fear of society.  Tsukimi, the lead, is a young women who LOVES jellyfish because its her connection to her mother who died. One night when she is visiting a local jellyfish store she meets Kurako, cross dressing man who appears to be a Stylish (aka a fashionable girl), who helps Tsukimi save a jellyfish that the store clerk has unknowingly put in the same tank. That night an unlikely friendship is formed between two very different individuals.

My Thoughts

This wasn't my favorite anime but I really just think its me selling it short. Not only does this anime have a great variety of characters it also has a unique storyline that is refreshing & funny. I mean seriously, how many animes have you watched about a group of otaku women?

What makes this anime so funny is that they truly fear any social situation that outside of the group, outside of their house, with a member of the opposite sex, with a stylish...basically with anyone. Another great aspect about this anime is that while each of the women is a nerd to the core, they are each nerdy in their own right.

For instance while Tsukimi is obsessed with Jellyfish, Banba (the one with the big black fro) is obsessed with trains. I think the fact that they are all obsessed with different things adds a layer of reality to the series because in real life we all don't get geeked out over the sames stuff.

I would definitely encourage you to watch a few episodes of this anime because it might just surprise you. The one thing negative I will say about it is that it ends ABRUPTLY. And I mean super abruptly but other than that I'd say its worth giving it a shot.

the PLAGUEEEEE

My entire family except my mom and me have come down with this gnarly version of the stomach flu...

On the brightside
  • More girl scout cookies for me! (she finally came back!)
  • I'm not sick
On the NOT so brightside
  • its only a matter of time till I get sick
  • there an endless amount of laundry that I can't seem to make a dent in
  • I can't watch much of any dramas since I'm playing Cinderella/Nurse/Alice             [from Resident Evil]

this sucks.

Currently Watching :: A Lot

I think I am going to start doing this "Currently Watching" post once a week... what I'm watching always changes and I like sharing it with you guys so I can get your opinions/feedback.

Still Watching

Bachelor's Vegetable Store :: The season finale of this series will air on Friday night. I wish I could say I'm sad to see this drama end but frankly I'm not. Barely anything has happened in the past 16 episodes and I felt like the last two episodes I watched were overflowing with "progress." Its super unfortunate because I really wanted to love this drama but it just sucks.

Too many tears. Too little character development. No real connection anymore - just annoyance.

Last Episode Watched - 18

Shut Up Flower Boy Band :: Still loving this drama but I'm beginning to wonder where they are going to go with the storyline. Six episodes in and a lot has already happened but what now?

But hey there are like 6 hot guys in this drama and awesome music. Not gonna complain.

Last Episode Watched -  6

Just Started Watching

Iris :: I feel dumb for taking this long to watch this drama. Despite being a budget breaking blockbuster this drama could have been all talk, but instead it had my heart racing from the first moment. I definitely get a City Hunter action vibe from this series and am really intrigued to see if there will be a romance factor just as fiery.

Not to mention the all star cast!

Last Episode Watched -  3.

Princess Jellyfish :: After watching a bit of Fruits Basket the other day I was missing anime - badly. Being out of the anime game for a bit I really wasn't sure what to watch. Luckily @WelcomeGhosts was able to give me a few suggestions and Princess Jellyfish was one of them.

This is a nice change of pace from all the dramas I've been watching. Super lighthearted and great animation this series is making miss anime!!! Maybe its time to re-watch Peach Girl too! lol.

Last Episode Watched - 4

New Podcast Episode

A new episode of Suchi is now out!

:: click here to listen::

Its been really fun recording with Loc. The first episode of Suchi was actually really hard to record since we were still getting to know each other [it took three nights!], so the fact that we were able to record this episode of Suchi in one take - like it was nothing - was exciting! PROGRESS! yay!

My editing, on the other hand, still needs some work. For the first episode I used GarageBand which was relatively user friendly. However for this episode I used a program called Audacity.  I really think Audacity records better but it wasn't exactly super obvious when it came time to edit. Guess I need to play with it more.

Anyways I hope you take a listen and tell me how it is. I feel like I'm too vague and should give more details about the dramas but don't want to make it boring either. I dunno. Feedback is definitely appreciated!!

LAMEEEEEEEEE

So far this month has been such a downer. I'm trying really hard to keep having a positive attitude and to press on but sometimes its just tough! In reality I have a lot of things to be thankful for and sometimes I don't take the time to thank God for how fortunate I really am.

 anyways...... that's why there have been a lack of posts these past couple of days.
I didn't mean for this post to be a downer, just letting you all know whats going on with me.

Moving forward!

I just recorded another episode of Suchi and will be editing that tonight and hopefully have that up & posted on JapanCinema.net by Friday.  Hopefully I can get back into a positive groove and make this month count!

SASA :: Eyeliner Help

Today I was searching for some skin care products (because a girl can never have enough) and while I was on SASA's website I came across a video they had for "Tips on Eyeliner." I use eyeliner just about everyday so I'm always a sucker for these videos so I watched it and thought it had some cool tips so I wanted to share.

Video Thoughts
- I've tried the Dollywink Liner and honestly wasn't that impressed. I don't know if it was my skin type or what, but I thought it wasn't very long lasting and the color was kind of dull (Black).

- After watching this it made me want to try the Jealousness Waterproof Liner but I have never heard anything about this liner before.

- Is it just me or is she putting her liner on really thick?

Currently Watching :: Shut Up Flower Boy Band

Geez these drama names are getting longer & longer!

I was definitely not going to watch this drama. After suffering painfully through the last flower disaster [Flower Boy Ramyun Shop] I was so skeptical that this too would be just a big fluffy pile of fluff.

Here's how it happened.

I follow Gummimochi on Twitter and couldn't help but notice that she kept raving on how good this show was. After going back and forth & asking her if it was worth it I decided to take my chances and watch the first episode and wow.... I almost missed out on a really good drama.

the basic info
Six guys. Best friends. School Transfer. New Enemies. Love. Angst.

and MUSIC!

thoughts so far

 i like!!! I truly was super skeptical watching the first episode but I am really starting to love this drama. There are so many different characters that it is kinda hard to keep up with at first (though they are all sooo cute I really shouldn't complain) but each of them has their own little back story & characteristics so it makes almost everyone enjoyable to watch.

I will it admit that there is a lot of "omgeeez my life is so hard, no one gets me" moments, but it hasn't become annoying [yet]. I even kinda like the antagonist Seung-Hoon for not being the stereotypical mean guy & even has some depth to his character.

Jung Eui-Chul as Seung-Hoon

With only 4 episodes aired so far I really think you should jump on this drama while its hot. Even though it is currently airing in Korea on Mondays and Tuesdays, Dramafever does a great job getting the episodes subbed & up on their site, usually same day for US users, so you can be up to date with the latest episode.

Let me know if you guys are watching too!

GIrls Generation in the US

Did any of you watch Girls Generation [SNSD] on David Letterman or Live with Kelly?? I watched both and couldn't help but be excited for them.  While I am by no means their biggest fan I couldn't help but wanting America to fall in love with them.

While I really liked their performance on Letterman, I couldn't help but feel kinda sorry for them since they were guests on the show the same night as Bill Murray & Regis Philbin. uh seriously? Like how awesome would it have been if the other guests on the show were under the age of 60!!! I really feel like they got that shaft and maybe could have made some better contacts if the guests were ANYONE ELSE but at least they rocked the performance.

Source :: @LiveKelly Twitter Account

As for Live with Kelly, personally, I didn't like the performance as much as Letterman. Even their outfits weren't as hot but whatever. I still love them. It was cute when Kelly got to ask them about how long they had been performing in such but it left me wanting MORE.

Honestly I thought they should have forgone the whole performance and had a full on interview with Kelly. While I think Jessica & Tiffany are the only ones who know English well enough to have an interview it still would have been fun and I'm sure would gave had a lot of giggling.

Here's to hoping that the next time they are on American television someone will let them actually talk because we are all anxious to hear what these girls have to say.
